Hello, it’s me again. The girl who decided to start a blog at the beginning of the year and also decided to make a million goals for my resolution.
That’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I’m that type of person. Full of exaggeration and tea.
I’m drinking a lovely raspberry hibiscus tea right now and I feel more put together than I have all summer. Which doesn’t take much.
The Half Way Point
Back in January (the 14th to be precise) I made a list of goals for myself this year. I thought it would be a good idea to check in on my goals and see where I stand. I’m a firm believe in assessing your goals and making new ones if those just won’t happen. No need to feel down on yourself. Just make new ones and keep pushing forward. Life comes at you fast (and boy did it come at me fast this year), and you’ll have to adjust on the fly.
Let’s start with my concrete goals. I called these the goals that I’ve defined. These are the ones that basically turn into a yes or no. Did I do it or did I not.
This year my concrete goals were as follows:
- Make a new post every Monday this year
So far, I have not failed this one. Every Monday there’s a new post on this blog. Does that mean they are the best posts ever? No. Do I regret making some of them? No, actually. Proud of myself there. I will continue to make new posts (and have a queue of a few already just in case I fall behind).
- Promote my blog on social media when I post
This one was easy. I have this blog attached to my a_writerbee twitter. Follow me on there if you’d like. I don’t post much more than just my blog posts, but I hope to keep doing more on social media.
Participate in 85K in 90 Days
I…didn’t do so well with this one. I joined. I started. I failed. I just couldn’t get the motivation, and with constantly going out for job interviews on the other side of the state about twice a month, I was just not invested like I wanted to be. Oh, well. There’s always next year!
- Participate in Camp NaNo
Currently taking part! I’ve already dropped my goal from 50K to 30K just because of weird writer’s block (and me pantsy the whole thing), but I am writing and I’m proud about that.
- Participate in NaNoWriMo
This won’t be until November so I have time to gear up for this. I hope to also get some NaNo prep blog posts out for you newbies (or those who never win. I’m currently on a bad streak myself so hopefully we can help each other).
- Find a new job
After nearly a year of looking, I did it! I found a new job. It’s intense and a lot of work, but I’m so happy. I look forward to growing in my new job, and doing tons of fun things in the new town that I’m in. It’s so much bigger than my hometown and there’s so much to do! Hopefully it’ll inspire me to write more.
- Start taking photographs again
I haven’t started yet. I just got my camera out of packing boxes, so that’s a start. I am also doing more camera work in my new position so I guess it’s a 50/50 resolution for now.
Pay off my credit card bills
With the move, I added more. There’s no way I can pay them all off by the end of the year. But I have done some money moves and hope to get them a third down by the end of the year (and also stop adding to my credit card debt).
Double my savings
This won’t be impossible soon, but it’s currently not in the cards. I still have the same amount of savings as before…and I will be adding to it soon, but not enough to double it by the end of the year. This is also a resolution that’ll sit better next year. Fingers crossed.
Now to check in on the progress of my vague goals. They aren’t ones that have a finish line…just more like something I will continue to have progress on.
Here are my vague goals:
- Get more organized
I am doing a bit better on that. Moving kind of forced my hand. I currently live out of boxes which takes a certain kind of organization, and I’m keeping up on putting everything in my calendar. So I believe I’m doing pretty well.
- Eat healthier
I think I am doing just that. I pick salads more. I eat a lot more red peppers with the recipes I find online! And a lot less fried foods. I do need to work on my candy intake though. My mortal weakness!
- Eat out less
I think I’m about 50/50 on this. I cook my own food more, but tend to go out with the boyfriend a lot too. I wouldn’t give myself a gold star on this, but I’m also not disappointed in myself.
- Save more money
This is not a good one. In my defense, I moved. I hope by the end of the year I’m back on track!
- Expand my portfolio
Always working to do this, but I haven’t gotten much yet. I’ll let you know by the end of the year if this was a good goal for me.
I’m doing pretty well. Out of my 9 goals I only failed 2 and I’m on track to get the last 2! So 7/9 isn’t too bad. On my vague goal front, I am working on it. I joined a gym to make me healthier overall, which will lead to me eating healthier because I’m more aware of it. I’m starting a new saving plan to help with both paying off debt and padding that emergency fund.
All in all a good resolution update this year. I’m excited with what else I can accomplish.
Let me know in the comments below how you’re doing on your resolutions. I’m rooting for you!
