The 85K in 90 Days Challenge

If you have any idea what I’m talking about with this title you’re probably procrastinating your work right now (and honestly, same. I’ve probably barely started).

For everyone else, let me explain.

What is 85K in 90 Days

85k in 90 Days is an annual challenge for writers who want to complete a novel, novella, a few short stories, or–hell–even a blogger wanting to create a backlog of filler posts. And just like the title indicates, you write 85,000 words in 90 days. It’s that simple.

Well, simple in theory. I’ve tried two years in a row without much success.

This projects intends not to only give you 85,000 words but also to help you form a habit of writing every day or nearly every day. But if you know anything about habits, they are difficult as all hell.

From January first until the very last day of March you write an average of 945 words a day…if you’re going to attempt to write every day, but that’s easier said than done with writer’s block, plot holes, life, and any other form of procrastination (like this post or every post I make about organizing my closet or bookshelf…don’t call me out).

You aren’t in it alone

The good thing about a challenge like this is that you have a community of like minded people trying to accomplish the same thing! They have a website, social media groups, and more to keep you on track. And if you visit 85K90.com you can see that they have challenges for the entire year.

From writing, to editing, to even getting published. If you’ve needed a push to get your novel somewhere (besides just between your ears) this might be the perfect challenge for you.

Plus, it’s a little bit more relaxed than the 50K in 30 days that is NaNoWriMo (I’ll explain more about that when the time comes).

It’s not too late to join me in the 85k challenge (you’ll just have to write about 1025 words a day to stay caught up), comment below if you’re participating or if you’ve participated before. We’re in this together!

And I’ll see you on the other side.
